APPRENTICE REQUIRED:
Applicants should have a keen interest in golf, and greenkeeping, and must be willing to attend college. The successful applicant will demonstrate being punctual, organised and enthusiastic. He/she will have his/her own transport. Some weekend work is required. A competitive package is available, with further training opportunities. Course managers report. March 2008 GREENS. The greens have responded very well to the extensive work carried out as part of the greens renovation program over the winter. The summer greens will now be in play for the rest of the season, weather permitting. 2ND GREEN. After encountering several major problems with the second green over the last year, including serious drainage issues, the green is now on the road to recovery. We have carried out extensive drainage and re shaping work to allow us to manage excess water in the area, remove stress areas around the green and increase air movement. We have an extensive recovery program in place for this green and hope to see it back in play in the near future. WINTER WORK. The winter program is now at a close, with the new tee's and renovated bunkers growing in nicely. GOLF COURSE. The course is in good condition after the winter and our focus is now on preparation work for the coming season. OTHERS I am disappointed to report an increase in damage to the course over the last month. This includes divots in summer greens and winter greens. Trolleys being driven over tee's, greens and areas that are ground under repair and also a huge amount of unrepaired pitch marks. There has also been an increase in golfers practicing out on the course. IE hitting several balls to a green from the same point. I feel that if all members took a little more care these problems would not arise. The Senior Men have donated £250 towards a floating duck nesting box for the pond at the 11 th . COURSE MANAGER.
